Rafael Quiñones Vidal

Rafael Quiñones Vidal (born November 13, 1892 in Mayagüez , † March 7, 1988 ) was a Puerto Rican journalist and television presenter.

Quiñones Vidal grew up in Caguas and attended the Escuela Lincoln there up to eighth grade. He trained as a teacher and worked for four years as a country teacher - years later he founded an accounting school in Caguas. Without any special training he also worked as an accountant, barber and sculptor. As a Freemason, he received the title of Venerable Master of the Lodge Unión y Amparo No. 44 in Caguas, later he founded a chapter of the Logia Masónica de la Orden Estrella de Oriente, Unión y Fe .

He began his work as a journalist at Francisco Zeno's La Correspondencia magazine . At Radio Tribuna he produced programs such as Hora Cultural , Happy Feet Hour and Ofertas Matinales in the 1930s . From 1954 he directed the program Tribuna del Arte on Puerto Rico television , in which young artists - singers, musicians, actors - were given the opportunity to present their talent. The numerous artists whose careers began with this show include Bobby Capó , Felipe Rodríguez , Julito Rodríguez , Guillermo Venegas Lloveras , Rey Francisco Quiñones , Tuti Umpierre , Maso Rivera , Raúl Carbonell , Ramito Toro , Miguelito Alcaide , Mario Pabón , Luís Miranda , Daniel Santos , Sonia Noemí González , Carmen Delia Dipiní , Milagros Carrillo , Yolandita Monge , Lalo Rodríguez , Adalberto Rodríguez and Lucecita Benítez .

Vidal has received numerous awards for his work. He became speaker of the year, Señor Televisión , received the Trofeo Borinquen as television presenter in 1961 and the Jibarito de Oro in 1973 . In 1970 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Festival de Popularidad , and Caguas and Areciba made him an honorary citizen. A school was named after him in Barrio Caimito in San Juan and in Caguas. Quiñones Vidal worked for the radio until he was 92.
