Rafael Roth

Rafael Roth (born November 18, 1933 in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg ; † September 21, 2013 in Berlin ) was a German pilot and entrepreneur .

Life

Roth came from a Jewish family. His parents had emigrated from Berlin to Palestine . Roth worked as a pilot in Israel and returned to Berlin in later years. He became successful as a real estate entrepreneur in Berlin. Among other things, he renovated the Kudamm-Karree high-rise building on Kurfürstendamm . Roth was divorced, lived in Berlin in the Kudamm-Karrees skyscraper and had two children, including the photo artist Yoram Roth . He was an important sponsor and patron in the founding years of the Jewish Museum Berlin . In 2005 manager magazin estimated his fortune at one billion euros, making him one of the 91 richest Germans. Due to cum-ex deals, criminal investigations were started against Roth in the last years of his life, but these were discontinued with his death.

His grave is in the Jewish cemetery in Heerstrasse .

His son Yoram Roth owns stakes in media companies ( tip , KCRW ) and real estate ( Clärchens Ballhaus , '' Fotografiska '' museums).
