Rafael Salguero

Rafael Salguero Sandoval (born December 3, 1946 in Guatemala ) is a Guatemalan football official.

By profession he was a lawyer between 1976 and 1990, President of the Guatemalan Football Association . From 2007 to 2015 he was a member of the FIFA Executive Committee . He was re-elected by CONCACAF in May 2011 for a second four-year term until 2015.

In 2016, Salguero was arrested in the United States. After cooperating with the authorities, he was placed under house arrest. Salguero pleaded guilty to corruption. He was convicted in 2018, the sentence is considered served by the two-year house arrest. In April 2020, the US Department of Justice announced that Salguero had received a $ 1 million bribe for his vote in the election of Russia to host the 2020 World Cup in Russia .
