Eleven international teams from nine nations covered a total of 289,662 kilometers. The ELDURO 2016 rally is a testament to the social responsibility towards the environment, which the 80edays project stands for. During the rally, the participants symbolically planted 28 80edays trees in different locations to communicate the importance of sustainable and environmentally friendly transport.

Local trees are planted by the participating cities, which serve as "measuring stations" and from which samples are taken every four years during the next circumnavigation of the world in order to determine the change in air quality.

By driving electric vehicles, the teams saved 30 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. To offset the carbon footprint of two cargo flights, 10,000 trees were planted in Nicaragua as part of the climate protection project by myclimate, eco-partner of the 80edays.
