Gustavo Assunção , with full name Gustavo Enrique Giordano Amaro Assunção da Silva (born March 30, 2000 in São Paulo ), is a Brazilian - Portuguese - Spanish football player who has been under contract with the Portuguese first division club FC Famalicão since July 2019 . The midfielder is a former Brazilian U17 international .
Career
society
Gustavo Assunção was born in São Paulo as the son of the former Brazilian soccer player Paulo Assunção , who was playing for Palmeiras São Paulo at the time. Paulo Assunção has played for the Portuguese top club FC Porto since the summer of 2004 and Gustavo also started playing football in the youth division of the Dragões . After his father moved to the Spanish first division club Atlético Madrid in 2008 , he also took Gustavo to the academy of the capital city club. From 2011 to 2013 he played in his Brazilian homeland in the youth team of São Paulo FC before returning to the youth of Atlético Madrid.
After seeing no chance in Atlético's first team, he left the club for Portugal on July 1, 2019, despite a contract offer from the Spaniards, where he signed a five-year contract with first division promoted FC Famalicão . On August 3, 2019, he made his debut for his new club in a 2-0 home defeat in the Taça da Liga against the second division club SC Covilhã . He made his league debut a week later (1st matchday) in a 2-0 away win against CD Santa Clara . At the Famalicenses he quickly established himself as a regular player in midfield and contributed significantly to the team's strong start to the season, which was reflected in the first place in the table up to the eighth match day.
National team
Gustavo Assunção has both Brazilian and Portuguese citizenship due to his maternal grandfather, who comes from the Portuguese city of Pombal . In addition to these, he has also had a Spanish passport since childhood, which allows him to appear for all three senior national teams.
In 2017 Assunção played four times for the Brazilian U17 national team and scored one goal in those games.
