Josep Maria Mestre Miret

Josep Maria Mestre Miret (born December 14, 1918 in Manresa , † July 22, 2002 in Barcelona ) was a Catalan composer and pharmacist.

Life

José María Mestre Miret ( Catalan Josep Maria Mestre Miret) was born on December 14, 1918 in Manresa as the son of a pharmacist. His father died early. He performed piano concerts in his hometown at the age of 14 and was hailed as a child prodigy . He gave further concerts in Barcelona and other Catalan cities. At his mother's request, he took over his father's pharmacy . During the Spanish Civil War he was the musical companion of his commandant and was the only one of his company to barely escape death at the front.

In 1960 he married Elisabeth de Mestre, née Gebauer, who later became internationally known in the bridal fashion industry under the name Isabel de Mestre . After finishing his career as a pharmacist, he devoted himself more to music and composed various romantic pieces. A piece he started at the age of 14 he completed at the age of 74. He became known for his compositions of Catalan sardanas . Two sardanas were awarded while he was still alive. He left behind the unfinished composition "Me voy a enloquecer".
