A Ragone diagram of some energy stores

A Ragone diagram ( pronunciation : [ rɑˈgoʊni ]) is used to compare different energy storage technologies . The specific power (or mass power density ) is represented in a Cartesian coordinate system as a function of the specific energy . By dividing the specific energy by the specific power, the times for a complete discharge are obtained. These times can be represented in diagonal isochrones .

The Ragone diagram was first used to compare the performance of batteries. It is named after David V. Ragone .
