Rail Coach Factory (RCF) is an Indian passenger car manufacturer wholly owned by Indian Railways .

The RCF is in Punjab about 7 km outside of Kapurthala , the former capital of the same name Sikh - princely state , and about 70 km from the border with Pakistan away. The factory includes a residential area with shops, schools, a hospital, sports facilities and a golf course.
production
Production started in March 1986 and can reach up to 1,700 cars per year. A total of more than 28,000 cars had been produced by April 2016.
In the 2015–2016 financial year, more than 1,500 passenger coaches were produced. Two thirds of these were older generation cars based on drawings by the ICF and one third of the newer generation with car bodies made of stainless steel based on drawings by Linke-Hofmann-Busch (LHB).
According to ICF drawings, 190 sleeping cars, 480 2nd class seated cars and 120 baggage cars were built. 150 sleeping cars for meter- gauge trains, a track measuring car and 16 four-part multiple units were also built.
The production program of LHB cars included both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned versions, including 54 cars for the Bangladesh Railway and two cars for the research and standardization organization RDSO of Indian Railways.
