Kapurthala ( Punjabi : ਕਪੂਰਥਲਾ) is a city in the northwest Indian state of Punjab .

Kapurthala is the capital of the district of the same name . At the 2011 census, Kapurthala had almost 99,000 inhabitants. The city is located 18 km west of Jalandhar . The city is also on the Jalandhar- Firozpur railway line .

Kapurthala was the capital of the princely state of the same name that existed from 1772 to 1948 .
