Kapurthala ( Punjabi : ਕਪੂਰਥਲਾ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ) is a district in the Indian state of Punjab .
The princely state of Kapurthala existed from 1772 to 1948. The current district consists of two sub-areas, which are west and east of the city of Jalandhar . The western part includes the Tehsils Bhulath , Kapurthala and Sultanpur Lodhi while the eastern part consists of the Tehsil Phagwara . The river Beas forms the western boundary of the district. The Kapurthala District is part of the Jalandhar Division . It covers an area of 1633 km². The administrative seat is the city of the same name Kapurthala .
