Rupnagar ( Doabi : ਰੂਪਨਗਰ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ) is a district in the Indian state of Punjab .
Rupnagar District extends along the foot of the Siwaliks . The Satluj River flows through the district. It was founded on November 1st, 1966. On April 14, 2006, the two blocks Kharar and Majri were spun off and added to the newly formed SAS Nagar (Mohali) district . The Rupnagar District is part of the newly established Rupnagar Division . Before that he was part of the Patiala Division . It covers an area of 1356 km². The administrative seat is the city of the same name Rupnagar .
