The area is 2242 km². The administrative seat is the city of Moga .
history
The Moga District was established in 1995 from parts of the Faridkot District .
population
The population is 995,746 (2011). The population growth rate in the period from 2001 to 2011 was 11.28%. Moga has a gender ratio of 893 women per 1000 men and thus a common surplus of men for India. The district has a literacy rate of 70.68% in 2011, an increase of almost 7 percentage points compared to 2001. The literacy rate is thus slightly below the national average. Almost 82.2% of the population are Sikhs , 15.9% are Hindus , 0.9% are Muslims , 0.3% are Christians and 0.5% did not indicate any religious affiliation.
Almost 22.8% of the population live in cities. The largest city is Moga with 150,411 inhabitants.

The main occupation for most of the people in this district is agriculture. The Moga district is one of the largest producers of wheat and rice in the Indian Punjab.
