from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ramon Berenguer IV of Provence (also: Pedro I of Cerdanya); (* before 1158; † April 5, 1181 in Murviel-lès-Montpellier ) was Count of Cerdanya from 1162 to 1168 and Count of Provence from 1173 to 1181 .

He was the second son of Raimund Berengars IV of Barcelona and Petronella of Aragón . His older brother was Alfonso II of Aragon , his younger brother Sancho , Count of Roussillon .

After the death of his father, he took over the counties of Cerdanya, Carcassonne and the rights to Narbona. But in fact he never ruled. After he had handed over Cerdanya to his brother Sancho in 1168, he entrusted the county of Provence to his brother Alfonso II in 1173.

In 1176 he took part in the conquest of Nice with his brother Sancho and was killed on April 5, 1181 by men of Ademar de Murviel in the war. His brother Alfonso II then gave Provence into the hands of his brother Sancho.
