On January 4, 1983, Resch made his debut in the ski jumping World Cup while jumping in Innsbruck . However, it took a year before he was able to win his first World Cup point on January 21, 1984 in Sapporo, Japan, with 15th place. In February 1985 he jumped into the points again in Sapporo. Three days later he was able to achieve his best individual result in the World Cup with fourth place in St. Moritz . Since he could not achieve any further success in the following competitions, he ended his active ski jumping career in 1987.
