Rainald II (Burgundy)

Rainald II ( French : Renaud ; † between 1097 and 1101 ) was a free count of Burgundy and Count of Mâcon from the House of Burgundy-Ivrea . He was a son of the ex-Count Wilhelm I and the Etiennette von Longwy-Metz.

He was married to Regina, who was a daughter of the Count of Oltigen . Their son was Wilhelm the German .

Rainald went on the first crusade in 1097 and entrusted his younger brother Stephan Tollkopf with the government in the Free County as guardian for his underage son. Rainald died in the course of the crusade. According to the chronicler Albert von Aachen , he was part of the retinue of Duke Welf I of Bavaria when he died, but with which he would have belonged to the crusade of 1101 , in which his brother Stephan Tollkopf also took part.
