Rainer Dahlem

Rainer Dahlem (born December 18, 1946 in Oberndorf am Neckar ) is a German trade unionist ( GEW ).

Life and work

Dahlem attended elementary school and Progymnasium in Oberndorf and then the Leibniz Gymnasium in Rottweil . After graduating from high school in 1967, he studied German and politics at the Ludwigsburg University of Education and, from 1970, at the Stuttgart University of Education . In 1972 he passed the second examination for teaching at vocational and vocational schools, then was initially a teacher at the vocational school in Öhringen and from 1975 to 2008 a teacher at the Wilhelm Maybach School in Heilbronn . He wrote several school books . Since 1978 Dahlem has been chairman of the Volksbühne Heilbronn e. V., from 1985 to 2002 he was deputy chairman of the Heilbronn theater association.

GEW and politics

Dahlem has been a member of the GEW trade union and the SPD since 1969 . From 1968 to 1970 he was AStA chairman of the Ludwigsburg University of Education, from 1976 to 1986 GEW district chairman in Heilbronn and from 1991 to April 2008 GEW state chairman (re-election 1992, 1995, 2000 and 2004). This made him the longest-serving head of his union. He is succeeded in this function by his previous deputy Doro Moritz . Dahlem is the managing director of the GEW's own Süddeutscher Pädagogischer Verlag (SPV).

In 2005, Dahlem wanted to run for the German Bundestag in the Heilbronn constituency , but was surprisingly defeated by the car mechanic and Audi works council Josip Juratović in the SPD nomination conference . Since 2009 he has been a member of the Schwaigern municipal council for the SPD .

Awards

In 2007 Dahlem received the Baden-Württemberg Medal of Merit .
