Rainer Hess (lawyer)

Rainer Hess (born November 6, 1940 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a lawyer and until 2012 was the chairman of the Federal Joint Committee , the most important steering committee in the health sector in Germany.

Life

Hess first studied mathematics and then from 1961 to 1965 law at the universities of FU Berlin , Kiel and Cologne . He passed the second state examination in 1969 and received his doctorate in tax law in 1972 .

In 1969 Rainer Hess became legal advisor of the Association of Leading Hospital Doctors . In 1971 he moved to the joint legal department of the German Medical Association and the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians , of which he became legal counsel. From 1988 to 2003 he was the general manager of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians. With the establishment of the Federal Joint Committee, he was appointed by the supporting organizations (umbrella organizations of statutory health insurance companies, National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, German Hospital Association), its first so-called impartial chairman from 2004 to 2012.

On November 10, 2012, Hess was awarded the Medal of Honor of the Association of Scientific Medical Societies (AWMF) for his services to the interests of scientific medicine . In 2013 he received the German Medical Association's Decoration of Honor .
