Rainer Salzburger

Rainer Salzburger (born October 21, 1944 in Kramsach ) is an Austrian boxing trainer and former boxer.

The 1.81 m tall Rainer Salzburger was Austrian light middleweight champion in 1965, 1968 and 1970. At the European Championships in 1965 in Berlin , he was defeated in the quarter-finals against Luigi Patruno from Italy, while he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Witold Stachurski from Poland at the European Championships in Rome in 1967 .

In 1968 he started at the 19th Olympic Games in Mexico City , where he had to admit defeat in the second preliminary round against David Jackson from Uganda.

From 1986 to 2000 he was Vice President and from 2000 to 2004 President of the Austrian Boxing Association (ÖBV). After retiring from the management position for six years and taking care of the establishment of the Unterberger boxing club in Wörgl , which he ran, he has been Vice President of the ÖBV again since 2010. He had turned down the post as the new president because, according to his own statement, he wanted to take care of sporting matters rather than bureaucratic matters.

In addition, Rainer Salzburger was Professor of Sport and Geography at the Wörgl Commercial Academy. At the Tiroler Sportlergala 2015 he was honored with a special award for his many years of activity as a functionary and active boxer .
