Rainer Schwarz (Sinologist)

Rainer Schwarz (* 1940 ) is a sinologist and translator of literary texts from Chinese and Russian .

He translated Chinese collections of fairy tales, literary works by Yuan Mei , Yue Jun , Shen Fu , Hebengge , Shen Qifeng and others from Chinese and literary works by Mikhail Prishwin , Nadezhda Durova and other authors from Russian.

In 2007 his translation of the first 80 chapters of the Chinese novel Hongloumeng, written by Cao Xueqin , was published . By Martin Woesler made edition of his translation and the translation quality of the other, the second edition in 2009 added chapters 81-120 he judged very critically.

Many of the texts he translated were made available in a Western language for the first time.
