Athletic career

As an 18-year-old Rainer Srodecki attracted attention in the 1974/75 season as a successful goalscorer (9) in the third-rate district league team of Chemie Leipzig II. However, it was not enough to move up into the squad of the 1st team, which went as a league promoter in the 1975/76 season. Nevertheless, Srodecki came to six league appearances in the first half of the season, where he was called up as a striker. Until April 1976 he was still a regular at Chemistry II, until he was called up for an 18-month military service in the National People's Army in May .

After his discharge from the army, Srodecki joined the league promoted Chemie Böhlen in November 1977. There he did not get beyond the status of a substitute player, in his nine league appearances he was only once in the starting line-up. For the 1978/79 season, Srodecki officially moved up to the league team, but was only used regularly in the second half of the season. He was called up in a total of 17 point games in attack, but could not score a goal. Then Srodecki got with Chemie Böhlen in an up and down between the upper league and the GDR league . At the end of the season, Böhlen was relegated from the league, then on again. After a year, the relegation and the immediate return to the league took place. During this time Srodecki developed into a regular player and was absent in the four seasons between 1979 and 1983 in only six point games. In the promotion rounds in 1980 and 1982 he played all eight games. From the 1979/80 season he also regularly scored goals, with 1981/82 he was most successful in the GDR league with nine goals plus two goals in the promotion games.

After Srodecki was relegated for the third time in 1983 with Chemie Böhlen from the league, he joined the GDR league club Chemie Markkleeberg for the 1983/84 season . There he continued to play as a striker, but only scored four goals in his first season. In 1984/85 the GDR league was reduced from five to two seasons, and 34 point games each had to be played. Srodecki only came on 19 missions and remained without a goal. As a 29-year-old, he went into his last season in competitive football in 1985. He was only used in one league game. After the end of his career he was able to refer to 80 league games (2 goals), 83 GDR league games (17 goals) and 16 promotion games (2 goals).
