Rainer Theodor Schmitz

Rainer Theodor Schmitz (born November 1, 1965 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German composer and church musician.

Life

Schmitz learned piano, composition and violoncello before completing his preparatory studies in organ at the Wiesbaden Conservatory. From 1987 to 1992 he studied Protestant church music at the State University of Music in Freiburg im Breisgau.

This was followed by concert tours as an organist within Germany, France, Italy and the United States of America. From 1993 to 2010 he worked as a conductor with the choir group of the Dresdner Bank Hamburg and since 2000 with the Buchholz concert choir. Since 1992 he has been cantor of the Trinity Community of Hamburg-Harburg , and since 2006 cantor of the St. Trinitatis community of Hamburg-Harburg. In 2007 he was appointed district cantor of the Harburg provost in the Hamburg-East church district and in 2008 regional cantor for downtown Harburg.

As a composer he wrote a Sonata da Chiesa for the Harburg trombone choir in 2004 and the Symphonia angelorum in 2008 , a concert for piano and symphonic wind orchestra for The Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University in 2005 and at the invitation of the Association of Church Musicians in the North Elbian Ev .-Luth. Church a little toccata for the anthology God is my song. As part of his church music practice, psalm settings and the cantata cycle on the architecture of the St. Johanniskirche Harburg were created .

Schmitz lives and works in Hamburg.
