Raith Chapel

The listed Raith Chapel is located south of Westenhausen in Upper Bavaria (part of Manching ). It was named after the Raith farm in Westenhausen (Hauptstrasse). The chapel commemorates an accident that occurred in 1872.

history

Hans Schmied, stepbrother of a later mayor of Westenhausen (Leo Raith), drowned in 1872 on Trinity Day in the Westenhausen Ach. He was found dead after not returning from field work that evening. The chapel was built to commemorate this death. Until the 1930s, a rosary was said every year on Trinity Day in the chapel .

Furnishing

In the simple chapel there is a niche with St. Mary , surrounded by the Holy Trinity. A votive tablet relates to what happened on the day of the accident. The Holy Trinity can be seen on a cloud, hovering over a cow in a meadow. The year 1872 is written under the portrait. A horse was shown in the original of the picture. This corresponds to the correct representation, since Schmied led the horses to the horse pond when the accident occurred.
