Rakel Liehu (born September 3, 1939 in Nivala , Finland ) is a Finnish writer .

Life

Rakel Liehu graduated from Helsinki University in 1963 . Then Liehu worked for a year from 1963 to 1964 as a history teacher at a school in Raahe . From the early 1970s, Liehu began to publish her first poems. She finally made her debut as a writer in 1976 with her novel Seth Mattsonin tarina . Originally, Liehu's work had a strong Christian focus, taking the dogmas of the church as not given and dealing with topics such as grief and loneliness. Her first two novels were filmed by Eija-Elina Bergholm and Tuija-Maija Niskanen as Finnish television productions.

With her third novel Helene , Liehu was able to celebrate another great critical success in 2003. She has received several literary prizes, including the Runeberg Prize .

Rakel Liehu's daughter is the philosopher Heidi Liehu .
