The rocket airfield in Berlin was the launch site of the " Association for Space Travel " in Berlin-Tegel . It was set up on September 27, 1930 on the site of a former firing range and used to develop and test liquid rockets. Mainly Mirak and Repulsor rockets were built and tested , with frequent explosions . The peak heights reached by the rockets were initially less than 100 meters, later peaks of up to 4000 meters were reached. On September 30, 1933, the rocket airfield was closed because of an unpaid water bill.

To commemorate the former rocket airfield, there are relief portraits of the rocket pioneers Rudolf Nebel , Hermann Oberth and Wernher von Braun in the main hall of Tegel Airport .
