Irina Vyacheslavovna Rakobolskaja ( Russian Ирина Вячеславовна Ракобольская ; * December 22, 1919 in Dankow ; † September 22, 2016 in Moscow ) was a Soviet major and chief of staff of the " Night Witches ".

Irina Rakobolskaja was studying physics at Lomonosov University when she signed up for military service during World War II . She became chief of staff at the night witches, which consisted of women only, who flew at night with simple Polikarpow Po-2 bombers in simple biplanes .

Rakobolskaya returned from military service as a major and finished her studies. Then she pursued an academic career. She received her doctorate in 1962, completed her habilitation in 1976 and became a professor of physics. The cosmologist Andrei Dmitrijewitsch Linde is her son and studied with her.

Irina Rakobolskaja was awarded the Order of the Red Banner , the Order of the Red Star , the Order of the Great Patriotic War I and II Class (twice) and the Badge of Honor of the Soviet Union .
