Ralf Beckmann

Ralf Beckmann (born August 24, 1946 in Burgdorf ) is a former swimmer and swimming coach.

Career

Beckmann came into contact with swimming in his place of birth at TSV Burgdorf . As an active player at VfL Wolfsburg , he was three times German champion (hall and open water) over 100 meters back ( 1970 , 1971 ) and swam records.

From 1972 to 1980 Beckmann was a coach at VfL Wolfsburg. In 1980 he became the sports and educational director (head trainer) of the swimming club Wasserfreunde Wuppertal .

From 2001 to 2006 Beckmann was the head coach and sports director of the German Swimming Association (DSV) and thus head coach of the German swimming team at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens .
