Ralf Michalowsky (born April 3, 1950 in Gladbeck ) is a German politician and was state spokesman for DIE LINKE together with Özlem Demirel from June 2014 to June 2016 . NRW . From 2007 to 2010 he was also represented on the state board of the Left in North Rhine-Westphalia , from 2010 to 2012 he was a member of the state parliament.

education and profession

Ralf Michalowsky completed an apprenticeship as a retail salesman after elementary school and worked in the profession for several years. He started studying economics and sociology through technical college and graduated in 1977 from the University of Essen with a degree in economics . Since 1978 he worked as a department head at the adult education center in Gladbeck.

politics

Ralf Michalowsky has been politically active since he was 17. He came to politics through the peace movement , political work with foreigners, and the community service movement. From 1970 to 1994 he was a member of the SPD and for this party from 1976 to 1978 also a member of the city council of Gladbeck. From 1994 to 2000 he was a member of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen . In this party he was city association spokesman from 1995 to 2000 and in 1995 a candidate for the state parliament in the constituency.

Ralf Michalowsky has been a union member since 1972. He belongs to the PRO and public workers' union and later ver.di on. He has also been an Attac member since 2001 .

In 2004 he was a founding member of the WASG . For this party he was a direct candidate in the state election campaign in 2005 in the state electoral district of Recklinghausen III and ranked 8th on the state list. In 2005 he became a member of the state board of WASG in North Rhine-Westphalia. Between May 2007 and October 2007 he was a member of the transitional board of Die Linke in North Rhine-Westphalia , in which the WASG was absorbed, as press spokesman . From October 2008 to July 2010 he was deputy state spokesman and press spokesman for the Left in North Rhine-Westphalia.

In the state election in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2010 , he was elected to the state parliament via the state list. The parliamentary group of the left elected him at their constituent meeting on May 11, 2010 as parliamentary manager; he held the office until June 2011. Michalowsky went to the main and media committee and was there spokesman, also in the sports committee and the culture committee. Since June 2011 he was a member of the Interior Committee. From November 2010 to March 2011 he represented DIE LINKE in the WDR Broadcasting Council.

In the local elections on May 25, 2014 Ralf Michalowsky was elected for DIE LINKE in the Recklinghausen district council and on June 16, 2014 by his parliamentary group as group chairman.

At the state party conference on 21./22. DIE LINKE chose June 2014 in Siegen. NRW, Ralf Michalowsky from Gladbeck and Özlem Alev Demirel from Cologne as their state spokesmen.

Sueddeutsche.de wrote on May 14, 2010 that Michalowsky belonged to the socialist left in the parliamentary group.

Michalowsky's appearances and remarks on the Gaza conflict in 2014 were also criticized by party officials on the left.
