Ralf Nestmeyer

Ralf Nestmeyer (born May 4, 1964 in Nuremberg ) is a German travel journalist, historian and author .

Life

Nestmeyer studied modern history , Bavarian and Franconian regional history and philosophy at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg . Ralf Nestmeyer lives as a freelance writer in Nuremberg. He is a member of the PEN Center Germany and has been its Vice President and Writers-in-Prison Representative since April 2018.

Since 1994 he has published more than two dozen travel guides and historical-literary non-fiction books (“Hotelwelten”), and he also writes for newspapers and magazines. His reports, reviews and articles have appeared among others. a. in ZEIT, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Nürnberger Zeitung and Spiegel online. As a travel writer, he mainly works for Michael Müller Verlag , the Merian series and for Emons Verlag . He is best known for his publications on France, England and Italy. His books have been translated into several languages ​​(English, French, Italian, Dutch, Czech and Hungarian). Based on the Media Control data for 2015, Nestmeyer ranks second among the “market-leading travel guide authors” with a market share of 0.9% of all travel guides sold in Germany. Most recently he made his debut with a detective novel (“Red Lavender”), which also deals with the French Resistance. The follow-up volume "The Dead from Mont Ventoux" deals with the Tour de France and doping.
