Ralf Petersen (2009)

Ralf Petersen (born March 6, 1961 in Gladbeck ) is a German architect and professor of building construction and design at the Stuttgart University of Technology .

Life

Petersen studied architecture at the University of Dortmund under Harald Deilmann , Hans-Busso von Busse and Stefan Polónyi . Their teaching concept, which, as the Dortmund model of construction , was geared towards collaboration between architects and engineers, had a formative influence on him, who did not see architecture, building services and the construction industry as separate fields of work.

After graduating from the University of Dortmund in 1986, he switched to the chair for design and building construction under Peter Steiger , where he held a teaching position from 1988 to 1990. In 1989 Petersen founded the architectural office Hansen + Petersen in Dortmund with Jürgen Hansen. Their first warehouse and administration building Allopro in Gelsenkirchen received u. a. the Deubau Prize for Architecture , as well as the following IBA Pavilion Emschergenossenschaft in Bottrop or the Haus am Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen.

After visiting professorships at architecture schools such as RWTH or the Luxun Academy, Petersen decided to answer tasks in the field of multi-family housing and urban infrastructure in an ecological and constructive manner. In 2012, he received the professorship for building construction and design in the climate engineering department of architecture at the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences. He was involved in teaching and research projects at the Kyoto Institute of Technology in 2014 and at the Rhode Island School of Design in 2017 .
