Ralph Johnson

Ralph E. Johnson (born October 7, 1955 ) is an American computer scientist . He is a professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and one of the authors of the computer science book Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software .

Johnson was a pioneer of the Smalltalk programming language and continues to support it to this day. He has had various leading roles at the ACM Object-Oriented Programming, Systems, Languages ​​and Applications conference OOPSLA , which he attends every year. He initiated the popular “OOPSLA Design Fest Workshop”.

In 2006 he received the Dahl Nygaard Prize .
