Ralph Mallée

Ralph Mallée (born May 3, 1945 in Westerholz ) is a German grandmaster in correspondence chess and a master player in local chess .

He learned to play chess from his father when he was 5 years old. At the age of 15 he joined the Dortmund chess club in 1875 . In 1962 he was Dortmund youth champion and youth champion of the Ruhr area. In 1963 he won the NRW youth team championship.

From 1970 to 1975 he volunteered in German youth chess. In 1970 he co-founded the German Chess Youth , later became its deputy chairman and was chairman of the NRW youth association . Furthermore, he trained the NRW youth team, which was able to achieve the title of German youth team champion in all four years of his coaching activity .

From 1965 he played in the top German league, mostly on the first board. Until 1972 for the Dortmund chess club 1875, from 1972 to 1985 for the chess club Menden 24 (first class until 1975). 1973/74 he finished second at the 49th Hastings Challenger tournament. He won the title of national champion at the German championship in Menden in 1974 , which Peter Ostermeyer won.

In 2001, at the suggestion of his youth chess friend Karl-Heinz Hüttemann, he returned to his former chess club Dortmund 1875 and played there in the first team on the first board in the association league. His German rating is 2120 (as of April 2014).

Correspondence chess

In 1965 he started to play correspondence chess. Its highest rating was 2505 in the 1980s. His greatest successes include winning the World Cup semifinals from 1972 to 1975, first place at the Bannet Memorial (1986–1990), which earned him the title of correspondence chess grandmaster, and winning the European team championship in 1992. His last notable The tournament victory was the one in the Petrov memorial tournament, which ended in 2004.

In the ICCF rankings of April 1, 2007 Mallée was listed with a score of 2493. He has been inactive since then.

In professional circles, Mallée is considered an expert on the Jänisch Gambit .
