Ramón Moreno Grosso (born December 8, 1943 in Madrid , † February 13, 2002 there ) was a Spanish football player .

career

Ramón Grosso began his career at the age of 15 in the Real Madrid youth team . Although he had to sit out a year due to a medical misdiagnosis (heart valve defect), he still made it into the second team AD Plus Ultra . During the winter break he switched to local rivals Atlético Madrid on loan and contributed to staying up with a strong performance. Then coach Miguel Muñoz brought him in 1964 in the first squad to replace Alfredo Di Stéfano in the storm. He succeeded, because on the side of Ferenc Puskás Grosso was both in the 1964/65 season (27 hits) and in the following season (11 hits) the team's best scorer.

His greatest success was winning the European Cup in 1965/66. The team known at the time as “el Madrid de los ye-yé” consisted only of Spaniards, of the stars of bygone days only Paco Gento was left. In the following years Ramón Grosso went through practically all game positions with success, which is why the press gave him the nickname "el obrero" (the worker) because he always put himself in the service of the team. After numerous international and national successes, Grosso finally resigned on August 31, 1976 , leaving Vicente del Bosque his place.

After his active career, he worked as a youth and assistant coach for several years. In 2002, at the age of 58, he succumbed to long-term cancer .
