Ramón Javier Mestre (born July 2, 1972 in Córdoba ) is an Argentine politician of the Unión Cívica Radical . Since 2011 he has held the office of Mayor of Córdoba.

biography

Mestre is the son of UCR politician Ramón Bautista Mestre , who was mayor of Córdoba between 1983 and 1991 and governor of the province of Córdoba from 1995 to 1999 . Therefore he is also known as Ramón Mestre hijo (son).

He studied law at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba and obtained the title of attorney in 1996. He later attended a master's degree in law for the regulation of public services at the Universidad Austral de Buenos Aires and a postgraduate course in trade standards in Madrid.

In the UCR Mestre obtained in 1995 the post of President of the Movimiento de Participación y Renovación of the youth organization of the UCR in Cordoba. Other regional party offices followed. In 2007 Mestre stood for the first time as a candidate for the mayor's office in Cordoba, but failed against Daniel Giacomino . Between 2007 and 2009 he occupied a seat in the city council of Cordoba, in 2009 he gained a seat in the Argentine Senate, which he occupied until 2011.

In the election on September 18, 2011, Mestre was elected Mayor of Córdoba with 35.65% of the vote. In the next mayoral election in 2015, he was confirmed in office with 32.36%.
