Federico Ramón Puerta (born September 9, 1951 in Apóstoles , Misiones Province , Argentina ) is an Argentine politician. As President of the Senate, he served as President of Argentina on an interim basis from December 21 to 23, 2001 .

Ramón Puerta was at that time provisional president of the Argentine Senate, the chamber of the Argentine National Congress . The Argentine Constitution provides that in the event that the President cannot exercise his office, the Vice-President will take over the official business. After Fernando de la Rúa resigned from the office of President on December 21, 2001, the Vice-President should have assumed the office. Vice-President Carlos Álvarez had already resigned his office in October 2000 and the post has been vacant since then. Next in line after the Constitution was Ramón Puerta, who was then Chairman of the Senate. He was overwhelmed with this task from the start and was happy when, two days later , he was able to hand over the presidential sash to Adolfo Rodríguez Saá , who was appointed by an election within the Congress. When the latter, however, resigned from the presidency only a few days later, on December 30, Puerta was forced to resign himself from his position as chairman of the Senate; on the one hand for health reasons, on the other hand to prevent the presidency from falling on him again. In his place, Eduardo Camaño, Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies, was briefly President (from December 31, 2001 to January 1, 2002); he was followed by Eduardo Duhalde .

Ramón Puerta was twice governor of the Argentine province of Misiones and deputy of the Chamber of Deputies between 1991 and 1999 before becoming a senator.
