Ramon de Garciasol

Ramón de Garciasol (actually Miguel Alonso Calvo , born September 29, 1913 in Humanes de Mohernando , † May 14, 1994 in Madrid ) was a Spanish writer, literary critic and essayist.

Coming from a family of artisans, Calvo received a scholarship due to his high talent, which enabled him to study law at the Instituto de Enseñanza Media and then at the Universidad Central de Madrid before the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War ended his education. In 1936 his first volume of poems, Poemas del tiempo nuevo , was published, followed by Alba de sangre the following year , both of which were still published under his own name.

In the following years Calvo was temporarily part of the Juventud Creadora , a group of young poets led by José García Nieto , who grouped around the magazine Garcilaso , and authors such as José María Valverde , Rafael Laffón , Pedro de Lorenzo , Jesús Juan Garcés and Jesús Revuelta belonged to. Later he was added to the group of the generation 1936 like the poets José Luis Cano and Dionisio Ridruejo and the essayists José Luis López Aranguren , Pedro Laín Entralgo , Julián Marías and José Manuel Blecua .

From the 1950s published numerous volumes of poetry under the name Ramón de Garciasol. From the 1970s, in addition to two collections of short stories ( Correo para la muerte , 1973, and Las horas del amor y otras horas ), several autobiographical writings appeared, including the great autobiography Cuadernos de Miguel Alonso (1943-1983) , published in 1989 in the magazine Anthropos and was published in book form in 1991. In addition, Garciasol wrote essays and biographical writings a. a. about Miguel de Cervantes , Francisco de Quevedo , Rubén Darío and Miguel de Unamuno .

For his works Garciasol u. a. awarded the Premio Pedro Henríquez Ureña of the Asociación Cultural Iberoamericana (1961), the Premio Fastenrath of the Real Academia Española de la Lengua , the Premio Álamo de Poesía , the Prize of the Asociación Café Marfil de Elche and the Premio Rodrigo Caro de Poesía . In 1990, like Rafael Alberti , José Hierro and Leopoldo de Luis, he received a silver medal from the University of Turin , where he had given a seminar on Antonio Machado . In the same year he was also awarded the Castile-La Mancha gold medal . In 1994 Ramón de Garciasol died of a severe stroke.
