Ramiro Villapadierna

Ramiro Villapadierna (* 1964 in Madrid ) is a former Spanish foreign correspondent with a focus on Central Europe. He is director of the Instituto Cervantes in Frankfurt am Main.

Life

Villapadierna studied communication sciences at Complutense University and historical law at UNED in Madrid.

Between 1986 and 1990 he was the features editor of ABC and a jazz critic , also for various media. In the early 1990s he became his newspaper's Eastern Europe correspondent. He was responsible for reporting from a total of 16 countries. The focus of his journalistic work was the political and social changes in the Eastern Bloc up to the entry into the European Union , the separation of Czechoslovakia , the collapse of Yugoslavia and the wars that followed in the Balkans up to the overthrow of the Slobodan Milošević regime. From 2002 he reported from Berlin, where he also worked for Deutsche Welle and the German Press Agency .

Villapadierna published in the Czech, Serbian, Croatian, Bulgarian and Polish press. He had contributions to international television and radio stations, among others. a. BBC , CNN , Deutsche Welle , Radio France Internationale , Radio Nederland , Radio Nacional de España , Cuatro , Tele 5 , Antena 3 and Radio Montreal. He wrote country reports for magazines and encyclopedias and gave lectures and presentations on Central Europe, the Balkans, the end of communism , war journalism , nationalism and conflict resolution, as well as security issues.
