The Rammelsberg barracks was a barracks complex at the foot of the Rammelsberg in Goslar . It was built in 1912–1914 for the Hanoverian Jäger Battalion No. 10 .

After the Second World War , it served the Federal Border Guard . After the Federal Border Guard was closed, the city of Goslar bought the building in 2002 and developed the current usage concept together with the State of Lower Saxony and the Clausthal University of Technology . After a large-scale renovation, the then Energy Research Center Lower Saxony of the TU Clausthal (now the Energy Research Center of the TU Clausthal) moved into part of the complex. The entire site was named EnergieCampus Goslar .

The Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute Berlin has been operating the fiber optic sensor systems department in the immediate vicinity since 2009. Both institutions work closely together in the “battery and sensor test center”.

After the revitalization of the former farm building, the CampusKita “Zum Frankenberge” has been located on the EnergieCampus since the beginning of 2018.

architecture

The barracks above Goslar's old town was built in the neo-renaissance style, with the architecture following models of residential castles from the Weser renaissance . In front of the main building with a hood- topped central risalit and two side wings attached at right angles, a flight of stairs leads down to the “Ehrenhof” , which is surrounded by lower buildings - in the case of the Baroque palace, for example, farm buildings, stables and orangery .
