Ramsden is an impact crater to the west of the front of the moon in the Palus Epidemiarum plain , west of the Capuanus crater . The crater is moderately eroded, its interior flat and flooded with lava .
The extensive lunar groove system of the Rimae Ramsden extends across the crater and far beyond the plain and its edges .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the English optician Jesse Ramsden .
