The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him in 1965 after the Swiss glaciologist René Otto Ramseier (1933-2008), who worked at the McMurdo Station from 1960 to 1961 and at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station from 1961 to 1962 .
