Ramsewak Shankar

Ramsewak Shankar (born November 6, 1937 ) is a Surinamese politician, he was President of Suriname from 1988 to 1990 .

Shankar is of Hindustan descent and studied agricultural engineering . After the increased formation of guerrilla groups in 1985 and 1986, which paralyzed almost the entire economy of the country, Suriname adopted a new constitution and in 1987 the first civil government was set up. After the parliamentary elections held in the same year , Shankar, former Minister of Agriculture of the National Council, was elected President to succeed Ramdat Misier . His term of office lasted from January 25, 1988 to December 24, 1990. Ivan Graanoogst was succeeded as President .
