Rancilio is an espresso machine manufacturer founded by Roberto Rancilio in Parabiago , Italy in 1927 .

history

Rancilio's earliest machine was La Regina - a vertical boiler machine similar in function and gilded Belle Epoque finish to the original Bezzera and Victoria Arduino devices .

In 1950, Rancilio launched a horizontal boiler machine, the Invicta Horizzontal , which followed the post-war transition towards an economical, modern design. However, the machine still used the same brewing method from the early 20th century. In 1953, Rancilio took over the lever piston technology introduced by Gaggia . In 1957, Rancilio launched a model that automated the lever process, the H / L Automatica . The company followed new technological trends in continuous brewing introduced by Faema in 1961 . In 1965 Rancilio commissioned industrial designer Marco Zanuso with design work, starting with the Rancilio Z8 and 1974 with the Z9 . Rancilio continued with several Z-series machines, the Z11 being the last. The S series machines became popular and well known in the North American market in the 1990s.

In 1997, Rancilio created an espresso machine the size for private household kitchens based on its professional range. This was initially only available as a thank you for importers and sellers of Rancilio's restaurant coffee machines. This machine was later sold to consumers under the name (Miss) Silvia . The Silvia is a one-group machine with a reciprocating pump from ULKA and a single brass boiler controlled by three thermostats for steam and hot water. It is often sold with the accompanying Rocky grinder, which is available in no-dose and graduated models with stepped settings.

In 2001 Rancilio renewed its program and introduced the basic Epoca range and the Classe range. In 2011 they introduced a new advanced brewing system called Xcelsius for the Class 9 , which allows precise control of the water temperature during the brewing cycle.

Rancilio tried a fully automatic machine, the Class 12 , and used cafes in American Borders bookstores as a test market. It was considered a failure, recalled and abandoned. As a result, they bought the Swiss fully automatic machine manufacturer Egro and established their presence in this market with Egro One .

In October 2013, Rancilio was taken over by the Ali Group (mutual funds).
