Randwick is a borough of Randwick City in southeast Sydney , New South Wales , Australia . It is located about 6 km south-east of Sydney's center (CBD) and is the administrative seat of the Randwick City administrative area. It is part of the "Eastern Suburbs" (eastern districts). Randwick is primarily a residential area with around 30,000 residents.
There is also the Randwick Racecourse , where the most important horse races in Sydney take place. Four papal services were also held in Randwick, in 1970 with Paul VI. , 1986 and 1995 with John Paul II and 2008 with Benedict XVI.
The Prince of Wales Hospital, the Royal Hospital for Women and Sydney's Children's Hospital are all located here. Randwick is also adjacent to the main University of New South Wales campus at Kensington and Centennial Park.
