The Langenberg with the Rantzauhöhe also has a cultural and historical function, as it used to separate the Danish and North Frisian settlement areas in the west of southern Schleswig .
history
The name of the Rantzauhöhe goes in Danish. ransel for backpack back, the name was later reinterpreted in German to Rantzau- .
Legend of the origin of the Langenberg
Once a giant came north from Dithmarschen over the Eider because he was supposed to help with the construction of the church in Ripen . When he was walking through the sand of the Goesharde , his wooden shoes were full of sand. So he sat down north of the Soholmer Au and poured out the sand. The two highest heights of the Langenberg arose from this: Ranselsberg and Werkshug.
