The Langenberger Forst ( Danish : Langbjerg Skov ) is a forest area in Schleswig-Holstein .

description

With around 1000 hectares, the Langenberger Forest is the largest forest in the North Friesland district . It lies between the villages of Leck , Stadum and Enge-Sande .

A typical mixed forest grows on the sandy soils . Tree species such as oak , beech , larch and spruce predominate. The numerous hiking trails are signposted and well developed. The forest is part of the Schleswig-Holstein State Forest and is managed by the Schleswig-Holstein State Forests ( AöR ) in Neumünster .

History

In the 19th century, forest director Carl Emeis was commissioned by the provincial government at the time to forest North Friesland, as northern Germany was only sparsely covered with forest. The Langenberg Forest was also created during this targeted reforestation campaign. A memorial stone was dedicated to Carl Emeis near the Ochsenweg .

particularities

Several fish ponds were created by Ernst Bock (1904–1986) between 1965 and 1985 in the Lecker part of the forest . For this he received the Schleswig-Holstein Medal of Merit in 1983. A memorial stone at the entrance to the fish ponds reminds of him. An extensive educational forest trail was built around these ponds, which includes a hut with exhibits. Another special feature of the forest is the Rantzauhöhe , which at 45 meters above sea level makes it the third highest point in North Friesland.

Recreation

The forest serves as a recreational area for the population of the surrounding villages. For this purpose, benches were set up, bridle paths were marked out, hiking trails were signposted and information boards were installed for orientation. There is also a game gate in the forest.
