In 1949 the Football Club Rapid Lugano was founded.
The history of the women's team began in 1947 with the establishment of the AS Armonia Femminile association, Lugano. In 1983 it merged with the FC Rapid Lugano club to form FC Rapid Lugano, sezione femminile. Today the women's team is called FCF Rapid Lugano.
