The Ebbs Rarities Zoo is a zoo in the municipality of Ebbs in Tyrol with around 80 different animal species.

location

The zoo is nestled in a wooded area at the foot of the Zahmer Kaiser , not far from the border with Germany. The neighboring town and district capital is the city of Kufstein . The entire area of the zoo covers 25,000 m² and is barrier-free .

Livestock

Approx. 600 animals in over 80 different animal species are shown (as of 2011). Due to the limited space available, large animals such as elephants and giraffes have to be avoided. It shows kangaroos , various monkeys and lemurs , maned wolves , giant tortoises, collar peccaries and several species of birds. The park also has a farm area with chickens, peacocks, pot-bellied pigs and dwarf rabbits.

history

In the 1970s, the first animal enclosures and dwellings were built by hand in the Kruck. The park opened to visitors for the first time on May 1, 1991. The Ebbs Federal Music Band played on this occasion. The bird park developed steadily, expanded and was later recognized as a scientifically managed zoo. After the turn of the millennium, the park went downhill for a short time. Financial resources were extremely tight. There was no money for adapting the sidewalks and adapting them to the new legal requirements. The continued existence of the park was endangered. In January 2007, new operators for the park were found. Construction measures since 2007 have included facilities for barbary macaques , pygmy otters and birds of prey (including griffon vultures , palm vultures , jugglers ) as well as sanitary facilities for the disabled and children.

The park has been approved and recognized according to the Austrian Animal Welfare Act since 2009. For the 20th anniversary in 2011, the zoo committed itself to the requirements of the ARGE Top Tierparke Österreich and was rated "very good" for animal-friendly keeping and zoological care.
