Ras Ajdir ( Arabic رأس جدير, DMG Raʾs Ǧadīr , also Ra's al-Jadir ) is a Tunisian place on the Mediterranean coast and on the border with Libya . The place is surrounded by desert. The next city on the Libyan side is Zuwara, 60 kilometers away .

Infrastructure

In Ras Ajdir there is a cultural center, a youth center, a sports palace and several schools.

To the east of the city on the Libyan side, the coastal highway leads to Tripoli . The Ras Ejder – Sirt railway line is about to open and will in future connect to the Tunisian railway line at Gabès and Sfax .

history

Ras Ajdir became an important collection point for fleeing Egyptian guest workers from Libya during the civil war in Libya in 2011 . On February 27, 2011 alone, 12,000 refugees arrived. At the same time, guest workers from Asia (Bangladesh) and sub-Saharan Africa are leaving Libya because of the unclear political situation. The Tunisian Red Crescent is trying to supply the refugee camp with basic necessities such as water, food and tents.
