The Council for the Republic ( Catalan Consell per la República ) is an unofficial body established by the former Catalan regional president Carles Puigdemont , which campaigns for the independence of Catalonia .

The council was held on October 30, 2018 a. a. presented by the incumbent Catalan regional president Quim Torra , his deputy Pere Aragonès and Carles Puigdemont. The event was attended by separatist representatives and members of the Catalan Parliament , ministers, government officials, mayors and activists.

The House of the Republic ( Catalan Casa de la República ) is the seat of the council and at the same time the residence of Puigdemont in Waterloo in Belgium. It has already served several times as a meeting place between the Catalan government, which has been in office since 2018, and the former ministers who have fled the justice system.
