The town hall is at the intersection of the two main roads in the city center. The Scottish architect David Bryce was responsible for the design from 1873 . The massive corner tower with a square floor plan dominates the building , which is designed in the Scottish Baronial style . Occur at the edges bay out that in Ecktourellen with conical roofs lead. Tower clocks are installed above the connecting balustrades . The tower closes with a steep slate roof and lantern .

Like the tower, the masonry of the wings consists of red stone blocks with ornamented facades. On both sides of the tower there are profiled arched portals , of which the main portal on the High Street with its columns is designed in more detail. The triple window to the right of the entrance, which is decorated with ornamented window posts, is remarkable . Parts of the buildings along Bridge Street may be of later date. They could be the hall that was built in the late 1880s to commemorate Queen Victoria's golden jubilee . The interior is of high quality with coffered ceilings, a main staircase with a balustrade and an arcade gallery above .
