City Hall (New Cumnock)

The Town Hall of New Cumnock is located in the center of the Scottish town of New Cumnock in the Council Area East Ayrshire . In 2005 the structure was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Monument Category C. Directly to the south is the neo-Gothic Martyrs Parish Church , which is also listed .

The town hall was built in 1888 according to plans by the regional architect Allan Stevenson . Fragments of a previous building may have been integrated during the construction. In the middle of the 20th century, a wing was added to the town hall, which houses a police station. With the exception of this extension, the building is largely in its original state. However, his condition was described as poor in 2005.

The building is on Castle Road ( A76 ) not far from Afton Waters . It takes up motifs from the historicizing Queen Anne Style . The street-side facade of the gable-end building is made of red brick and is symmetrical. The central triple window is flanked by separate single windows crowned with segment gables . The triple window on the upper floor, on the other hand, ends with a blown triangular gable . A plaque above shows the year of construction 1888. The police station adjoins the entrance area on the left and is set back a little. In contrast to the front, the masonry of the rest of the building is made of quarry stone .
